Frisbee Golden

Some day (next 3 years) when we move to a bigger house with a bigger yard, I need to get a dog I hope to teach how to hunt pheasants. This dog also needs to get along well with small children. I can sell this plan to my better half if I get a Frisbee Golden (they're darker, redder...she says prettier) than other suitable dogs. Can anyone offer their opinions on Goldens for pheasants, and specifically anything about Frisbee's?

Goldens have been bred into two catagories. Show dogs are generally bigger, blonder and long hair. Hunting Goldens are generally smaller, redder and shorter hair. I have a "hunting" Golden that is probably the best dog I have ever had. (I had labs forever).I have not heard the term "Frisbee". She is just over a year old and hunted last fall. Did great, as young as she was. She stays in the house and is great around kids. Look for a breeder that does field trials or agility trials. You won't be disappointed. Good luck.

...field trials or agility trials... Got it, thanks. Frisbee is some sort of breeding line, I don't know. I see the term in want ads occasionally, and when visiting a walleye show at Canterbury Park this guy had this beautiful dog and told my wife that's what it was. Just as you say, a redder coat. Topbrass Goldens are one of the best breeders of field goldens in the country/world. I have a topbrass golden who retrieved his first pheasant and made perfect water retrieves last weekend at 14 weeks of age. I have had three Frisbie Hunting Goldens. I have two sons who have Frisbie Golden Retrievers.
Every dog has been excellent hunters. We hunt both pheasants and waterfowl. My last golden, Reilly, would actually dive under water for ducks. Darrel and Vee Frisbie breed about four females a year. They live in Melroe, Minnesota, west of the Twin Cities, in the summer and go to Georgia in the Winter. You won't find a better dog around kids or in the field.

I know this isn't very helpfull when it comes to your questions but if it were me (which it isn't) and I was looking for a good hunting dog, the last thing I would do is shop for a color. If you want a really good dog shop the pedigree first, find the litter that fits your needs and chose from the litter. There aren't nearly as many hunting lines in Goldens than there are in say Labs or GSPs. Just my 2 cents.
