Here's a bunch of Saugeye stuff from 1990 to present ~ just remember w/Boat Control there is a big difference between boat speed/sog & lure speed/sog ...also there is no order, so wysiwyg & the MO changes some with time w/a major shift to the nite-bite for sUMo's since 1999... IMHO Eye & Bass pressure has increased 10 fold in the last 20 years on my home lake...
-also I've tried to not give any "detailed info" beyond the 17-20" eater-size Saugeye to help get I-Guyz started on the path of Angling for Eyes & "not" to bait hooks for the clue-less yahoos who won't take the time to learn the Saugeye basic's ...I think you get the drift

Well I luv to Pull due to shot castin' shoulders & have spent the last 10 years or so using the boat for lure placement & lure speed... here's a few quickies because I run all kinds of twists off each one & each has great detail in the nuts n' bolts -- I seldom fish for neutral eyes so I'm on top of B-lines, humps, flats & etc in skinny water. I follow plotted named gps trails at .15 mile zoom & have more plotted than can be covered/run in several days stored.. I run at 4.0-5.5 sog when the slam-bite is on -or- searchin'...
F-line S-pullin' ~ a locatin' method to quickly run the tops of B-lines for active eyes by workin' the slower inside Dig line down the break with floatin' cranks... F-line Z-pullin' ~ flutter droppin' & rippin' sinkin' lures for the Gals when located using the s-method above of boat control with much harder cuts on the wheel... F-line Circle-pullin' ~ runnin' a pair of inside lines on the tops of humps, flats & etc when active eyes are found from 5-9 sog. F-line Fig 8s ~ about same as circle pullin' but with port/starboard rods.... but I'm usually walkin' the 8s down the hump in a gps slide to look for leftovers & to catch the breaks on both sides at the end of the 8s.... (all the above req/s matched lures. line, line-out & rods ~ I run a 15' wide horiz spread w/flatlines) PBs (boards) ~ heheh, you name it anything goes from runnin' a couple of feet off the shore/bank rocks to doin' the stall n' rip on the flats. I even play games with dipseys n' have a very shiny wheel n' callous hands along with a luv for droppin' the hammer...... Besides straight-line pullin' is too much like tight-linin' for Karp n' Kats to me!

-now that this spring's slam-bite for eaters is changin' over to the nite-bite for sUMo's I did add a new occasional twist to my methods that I discovered last fall for shallow water ... (I used to f-line lip-modified RR ripsticks in deeper(4.5-5.5') stump filled waters for fall sUMos) but I found that by removin' the bow n' stern trebs to reduce hangups & runnin' them otherwise unaltered short-lined 5-7' behind PBs along 2'-2.5' deep pad-lines & also run the mod-sticks back more distance for shallow humps/B-lines when I located what I thought was a "good" fish area, they became worth the extra hangup effort if the Gals/sUMo's were there, if not back to the usual search tools.......
-I'm still lookin' for a go-to floatin' crank to replace a sinkin' R-Trap as a hardcore sUMo buster ~ they are a hard act to follow..........

I have a question, after you have located the saugeyes in a particular area of a point.do you stop and cast, drift and cast or just keep trolling? I usually locate them on B'-lines or hard-bottom flats away from the shore-line & troll ... when they are in real skinny water, pads & points (spring temps/day-bite), I might have to cast for a short spell, but this ex-basser with shot shoulders usually finds a way to let my boat do the castin' for me with boat control methods.... I'll troll water under one foot at times "with my lures", but have the boat in deeper water with boat control -or- use PBs...

Hello Raybob,
I am very interested in your Saugeye methods on Indian Lake (OH). I have always been a crappie fishermen. However, I am in process of converting over! I hear Indian is the premier Saugeye lake in Ohio. The lake is within an hour from my house. Where do you start at this time of year? Do you use the SSR7's in April -May? What speed? Any specific pointers for Indian would be appreciated? Thanks, Jim |

Gotta love someone coming on here NOT adding anything of benefit or substance but instead talking about "narrow foreheads" "inbred few" and "fools" , just maybe that delete button you beg for IS needed........just not how you imagined it....???
![]() Sorry I don't believe you're trying to be helpful not hurtful ,there ARE ways of doing that which doesn't include name calling, outright insulting of the folks here, and "tooting one's own horn" on how "wise" you want some to think that you are..... ![]() While "you speak" of other's "insecurity" I'd imagine it best for you to take a long look in the mirror, as it's quite obvious you're quite jealous that some actually like good old fashioned information taken from much time on the water and passed along free of charge to those willing to simply read it. I don't know maybe YOU really do imagine some banjo music, that's fine with most of us ( I suppose) what I don't agree with (at all) is your insulting of everyone here, including the moderators....... But that is only my opinion. |

Just read this thread for the first time. WOW!! Never met Raybob but you da man. Anyone that can keep that kind of detailed info is obviously a former military man. I can honestly say that I understood only 1/10 of what you said but enjoyed trying to decipher the lingo. You were right on with the thinking outside the box as opposed to letting someone else "bait your hook". This ranks up there...in a different sort of way...with Peanut's quest for the bait bucket.

Raybob is da man! Don't listen to the nay-sayers Ray, we love you man! How about a finesse pull'n bite during doggy days in the skinny wind-swept oxygen rich stuff. 1.3 MPH, pounding bottom through 3 FOW with jointed #7's on a dirty lake?
