Default Is there any way to preview lake maps before buying the newer chip?

Reason I'm asking is because I want to buy a updated chip as I currently have a 06 navionics map preinstalled in my 997 and I have seen a buddy's fishfinder with a updated map with more features of the same lake that my map does not show and he does not know what year his is. I also would like to compare other lakes with my 06 map to see if it's any different and worth buying.. . Is there any way to compare beforehand other than buying the chip and hoping it's way better?

On Lakemasters website you can download the lakes on the chip, then compare.

For $14 you can now download navionics maps to an Android or iPhone. Cheap way to preview a map and you will now have a handheld GPS with lake maps. Not bad for $14.
