Hi
The walleye bite on Mille Lacs has been decent so far - not "every hole, every day", but it's better than last year at this time. First and last light are still the best times, although a fair number of fish are being taken through the overnight. We're seeing some fish in the 28+ category showing up in the wee hours of the morning! 26-28 feet has been the preferred depth range the past week or so. Some folks are beginning to get out to the deeper gravel bars and some of the mud flats using atv's and snowmobiles. Use a smaller Swedish Pimple or Kastmaster (blue, red) tipped with a piece of a minnow. For the overnight bite, a shiner on a small Gem-n-Eye or Demon (again, red or blue) should do the trick. If perch are more your thing, plan on doing some serious sorting. The northern bite was good this week in Cove - suckers fished at 7-10 feet in or near a weed pocket is the best. Yes, we still have shiners. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this: Friday: A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph becoming northwest. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 11. West northwest wind between 13 and 15 mph. Saturday: A 20 percent chance of snow after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 24. West northwest wind between 11 and 16 mph. Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 16. The first quarter moon is 1-30--2012. .................................................. .................................................. .... Finally, Be careful of the New Year's Diets... Needing to shed a few pounds, Lena and Ole went on a diet that had specific recipes for each meal of the day. She followed the instructions closely, dividing the finished recipe in half for their individual plates. They felt terrific and thought the diet was wonderful - They never even felt hungry! But when Lena realized we were gaining weight, not losing it, she checked the recipes again. There, in fine print, was: "Serves 6." Have a great weekend, Bill Lundeen Last edited by Golden; 01-31-2012 at 09:05 AM. Reason: Thank you for the fishing report but please don't use the forums as an advertising tool in the process. |
