Default Mille Lacs Lake - Weekend Outlook 2-9-2012

Hi

Most of the walleye we've seen since the weekend have come from the mudflats in 23-25 feet of water in the morning and again right toward dark. The top edge will often give way to the deeper (bottom) edge as the day goes on - this is where the perch are beginning to show up along with the tullibee. Small jigging spoons (Pimples, Frostees, Fire Eyes) in the darker colors are producing most of the fish. Greg's Flat, 7-Mile and the Boot are each worth a look. The gravel bars are turning out some fish too - similar depths and times as the mud. If you're going to chase the perch and tullibee, be sure to grab some bugs (waxies, magotts or shrimp). There is still some northern action in Cove and Wahkon Bay - it seems like this bite is holding on later than usual... get 'em while you can!

The last day of the walleye season is February 26th, 2012. Fish houses need to be off Mille Lacs by March 5th, 2012.

.................................................. .................

The weather for the weekend (from the National Weather Service) looks like this:

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 9. Wind chill values between -12 and -22. North wind between 13 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -8. Wind chill values between -15 and -25. North northwest wind between 9 and 13 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 13. West northwest wind between 10 and 14 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 0.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 25.

The last quarter moon is 2-14-2012.

.................................................. .........................

Finally, A young and foolish pilot wanted to sound cool and show who was boss on the aviation frequencies. It was his first time approaching a field during the night time. Instead of making any official requests to the tower, he said: "Guess who?" The controller switched the field lights off and replied: "Guess where!"

Have a great weekend,

Bill Lundeen
