Default Neighbors Dogs

Ok let me start this off by saying I'm a dog owner (Yellow Lab & Chesapeake Bay Retriever) and lover. My dogs are not perfect by any means. However my neighbor who lives across the street from me has a little schnauzer (who runs wild but does not bother me) and they now just acquired 2 little dogs (the kind people stuff in their purse) that will sit on the property line and BARK NON STOP. If I go out to get the mail, play with my son in the driveway or even stand anywhere in my yard. I can't believe how much noise 2 little dogs can make. I must say these people think their _hit don't stink and they don't associate with anyone. For instance they had an outdoor wedding last summer at their house, and while I was at work I found out there were cars parked all the way around my property, yes pulled into my yard. All the lots are at least 1.5 to 3 acres but these dogs are sitting on the edge of their property (almost on the road) barking at any movement morning or night. Its winter now and the dogs are doing this, so I really don't want to deal with this mess in the summer. I question the "Smarts" of these people since the father shoots his .22 in the yard aiming at chipmunks (which I have found dead in my yard) and I've also heard the daughter was coming home from school to an empty house when she was 6. For the most part I try to stay away from these people and I don't bother waving if I see them out. I think these people don't like having the dogs in the house because they bark to much, so let the neighbors deal with the issue. I'll sometimes hear the wife open up the window and yell at the dogs to be quiet, and then 30 seconds later its round 2. Thoughts please.

Mark

A neighbor across the street had a small dog that would bark constantly at anyone or anything. I took a compressed air horn out of my boat, walked out front to get my mail and when the little guy was at the height of his ruckus I walked half way across the street and let him have a nice long blast. From then on he went elsewhere when I showed up in my front yard. The neighbor didn't mind and said it was cheaper than him buying a barking collar.

Boat horn sounds great, garden hose, spray bottle with ammonia and water mix. If that doesn't work pepper spray.

Well, the the good news is they are across the street, the bad news is in most states its illegal to shoot across roadways so be carefull and shoot straight.

Had the same problem with my neighbors Dogs... when she was away, they yapped NON-STOP... talked to her politely and it had no effect on the dogs.
They have a sort of battery operated hi pitched, (only the dog can hear) cone type anti bark system for sale on a bunch of pet store web-sites. Takes 4 "D" size batts. It is adjustable for frequency of beeps, as well as timing of beeps and also sensitivity to the dogs barking.
I purchased one and set it up per directions.... Dogs quit barking within 3 days.
They sometimes need a 'little" refresher course every two to three months, but hey.... of course, I don't let the neighbor see the unit.

Avoid a confrontation and possible all out squabble with a neighbor if at all possible. I would not think of telling you what to do but let me tell you a story about my first wife and cats.

I did not want a cat in my house but my wife decided to get one. I told her that was a nice looking cat and I stroked it and made over it for a week. She came home from work one day and asked if I had seen the cat. I told her I had seen it earlier in the day but not lately. The cat never returned home. A week later she brought another cat home. I said "That's a really nice cat". About a week later my wife came home from work and asked if I had seen the cat. I told her ------. This repeated itself one more time before she quit bringing cats home.

I think you see the moral here. Don't nake a scene or an enemy. Take care of matters and keep it all to yourself.

Jack
