Default whats your guess on mileage?

Hi all,

Some time next week I am picking up my new to me Trophy 185 w/ Suzuki 175hp. If i have got my numbers right the boat/trailer/motor will weigh in just shy of 3000lbs dry.

I am wondering what you all think i will be able to get for gas mileage pulling it with my 08 Silverado 1500, 5.3l, 3.73 rear axle. trailer is single axle with surge disc brakes. good tight fitting cover on the boat. I typically drive the speed limit w/ a trailer or about 68mph if speed limit is 70.

I know the only way to know for sure it to test it out when i get it but i just wondered if some one might have a rough guess so I dont have a heart attack watching the needle on my gas gauge running from F to E.

thanks for your thoughts.

I have an '04 silverado with the same setup and tow a Lund 2025, which is a little heavier. I'd guess you'll see a 20-30% decrease in mileage when towing. It may vary depending on the amount of hills and how much extra weight you're carrying in the truck. If you're seeing an average mileage of 16-17 not towing, probably something around 12-13 mpg towing.

Yep, 11-13 towing (lower if yoyu're going mostly 68, higher if you're going mostly 55). About the same as I get with my Suburban pulling my rig (1999 Suburban).

First off, does it really matter what mpg you get?? You are bringing home your new boat, get out there and use it! Have fun and enjoy the feeling of a new rig.

Second, to address the mpg question, I have the same vehicle. I do pull a bit heavier boat, a Ranger 620, and I tend to "slightly" exceed the speed limit. For mileage, depending on how hilly it is, I average around 10-11 mpg.

Nice boat that you are getting, have fished out of a few of those. Enjoy!
