I see the competition is getting onto the slow death design bandwagon. I picked up a few Matzuo Death Roll hooks to try out this weekend. Same bent hook design, but they are using a wider gap hook, something like their Wide Gap Shiner hook, looks like a Kahle hook.
I typically have not been a big fan of Matzuo hooks, but this one looks pretty good. No idea how it works yet. |

i tried one last weekend at oahe, i had it in the water for about 30 seconds and a 15 incher swallowed it so i cut it off, it was the only one i had tied up, to lazy to tie more on the trip so i kept using the slow death hooks
that one worked well and they seem to have a bigger bend, i will try them more next trip |

Guys, forgive my ignorance, but do you thread your crawler on these or just go thru the tip of the head, slide the crawler up the hook, and then back thru the crawler, like you might a rubber worm. If you truly thread them along the hook shank, how in the world do you get it done. My old fingers don't work as well as they used to. Those squirmy little rascals won't hold still.

The death roll hook is awesome because of the wider gap. I haven't lost one fish yet. |

doubleheader,
one needs to thread the worm all the way down the hook. I usually go down to the last bend then exit the hook there. Be sure to slide the worm up over the eye of the hook so the trimmed tag end of the line helps hold up the worm. Test the worm beside the boat before letting it down to the bottom to make sure it is corkscrewing propperly. If it's not, I either back the hook out a little bit then thread it on a bit further or use my pliers to enhance the bend a little more. I like to use a single bead above the hook too. Also, it may be necessary to tune the hook back into shape after a few catches or snags. BTW, I have been using #2 hooks and Gulp 3" Fry in Natural and Green. I might look for some #1s and try the 4" Gulp crawlers. |

I would also really like to know where guys are picking these up (cn't find online anywhere). Love slow death but have the same complaints as everyone else if the hook is stronger and has a better hook up rate solves my problems that i have with slow death. Also can you buy them in 5,10,25 packs what is available. Thanks in advance

I got mine from cabelas, pack of 25, 1/0 sized. I like the bigger size of the matuzo hooks.
