Default Hummingbird..which one??

Finally figured I'd bite the bullet and go SI, Hummingbird has both the 998 and 1198 SI HD DI and who knows what else they come with units.
Going to be running this on the 185 tourney sport and it looks like the 998 is just a bit bigger than the LCX 27C's I have now.

I'd like to go bigger, but the 1198 almost seems to big, any thoughts???

Bigger is usually better, but not sure if the added cost is worth it.

TIA

Al...who's trying to talk himself into it, but that is a lot of money.

The 998 will suit your needs just fine and will look more proportionate in your boat. Since they both do the same thing, the 1198 would be overkill in a boat that size.

Just my opinion.

Al,
What she's really trying to say is that you need a bigger boat. Size matters. Especially on Lake Superior.
Trust me, the new boat shopping experience can't be matched,,,,,,,,

Ya, it'd look a bit large on the dash, but I'm betting my eyes are worse than you youngsters and standing back on the back deck and a split screen, I'd probably like the big screen better.

HRG..funny you mention that, Nick down at LaCannes says he has a 20 footer loaded that they used as a demo with only a few hours on it, and he'd make me a heck of a deal on it.

Mentioned it to the wife..... stitches come out next week..

Ned, it's the extra coin I'm trying to justify.

Thanks all.

Al

Default What do you want to see?

Do you want to see out of your windshield or see your sonar from anywhere in the boat? The 1198 would be nice, but it's big and takes up a lot of dash space, making it tough to see out of the windshield when driving. I'd get the 998 unless you have a ton a space on your dash, which I don't believe you do. I don't think you can wrong either way.

Hey al i was in my buddies new 621 and it came with a 1198 bird in the dash.Never been around hummingbird before i was impressed Man these new units are fast to zoom and look around, much quicker than my gen 1 lowrance hds 10's.I think the screen is bigger on the 1198 than the hds 10.I have been lowrance from day 1 but i was impressed with bird might have to try one next go around.I would go with the 1198 imho.

Al,
Buy the 998, then when you realize it's too small after the first trip, I'll buy it off 'ya for 500 bucks.

Friends helping friends!

I had a 997 on my old boat, loved it. Put a 1198 on my new boat, night and day difference as far as being able to see things from anywhere in the boat. that said, not sure its worth the extra coin.

Al, I loved my 997. However You can never go to big.

I tried everything to fit a 1198 on my Impact....just could not do it and still be able to see out the windshield and I didn't want to mount it way off to the side. Had to relent and get a 998....I would MUCH rather have the 1198. If you can possibly fit it in, get the big dawg.
