Default 1198c SI Linking ?

Ok here is the question. I want to do this correct and make sure its worth it. I want to put a 1198c SI at counsol and another 1100 series at the back of the boat for trolling. Sore neck is worth it. But do i need to do another SI unit to have the SI work on the back unit as long as they are linked? If not it will save me about $700.

Also for the bow would a SI model even work with a Minnkoata? Unless you link again to the counel. If i make any sence on what Im trying to figure out let me know your thoughts. Thanks. Is anyone putting SI models on the bow? Is it worth it?

If you link more than two units you'll need a 5 port. Both units must be capable of SI to read SI in your case. Example if one unit is only DI and don't have SI and you link to a SI unit that unit still can't get SI. All units must use their own map chips.

I have two 898 and I can use all the same features on them. I don't use the US on my Terrova. I put the second transducer on with a transducer saver. If I want SI I just switch to the transom. I also placed the second gps up there too and can chose that if I'm sitting a console while using TM.

1st question....you can hook up any of the newer units via either net. Newer units being 1198, 998, 898, ect. You can also hook up the 1197, that's the only older model that you can hook up. You need to hook up the 1198 with a 998 or 898, all of which have the side imaging. Without one of those units, you lose everything but the 2d sonar. Humminbird has this all explained on their website. http://store.humminbird.com/products...a3bd00ca98d155 Click on the specs portion and it'll tell you what units will work with which ones and what sonar will work.

2nd question, Minn Kota's universal sonar will not work with an 1198, but you can put another ducer on the motor and run it that way. I have an 1198 at the con and a 1197 at the bow. I fish Winnebago and would be using the 1197 a lot more but the trolling bite is insane---or has been--and haven't fished the reefs as much. There are some on here that swear by having another SI unit at the bow. Jason Halfen likes to use a 1158 DI for better down viewing, but it's your choice. Hope this helps.

The 2nd question answer is really yes and no. You can hook an 1198 to the Minn Kota US2 but it will only read traditional sonar. If you want SI at the bow you will need to use the SI transducer that comes with the sonar unit.
