Dakotas Fishing Trip

Five friends and I are planning a walleye fishing trip to either North Dakota or South Dakota in late May or early June. We live in Arkansas. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to go, when, where to stay, accomodations, etc? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We've been going to S. Dakota for the last
4 years. We have fished both lake Sharpe and
Oahe. Both great. We have fished in late May
each year. With a couple of return trips in late
August and late October. For us May has been
the most fun.
As far as where to stay, the town of Pierre has
more than enough hotels to pick from. When
we have fished further north, we stay at the
campground at West Whitlock. Very nice and
clean place. We have enjoyed our trips. Great
fishing, and the surroundings are beautiful. You

Come to South Dakota, If you would like to stay
in the Chamberlain area you can stay at Cedar
Shores, They have slips to rent right by the resort. If you like to camp the snake creek area
west of Platte, SD on Lake Francis Case is the
place to stay, they have food, great showers, and
a great view of the river. If you want more info

My son and I stopped in Chamberlain SD at the beginning of July last summer and camped at the Cedar Shores resort. We had a great time fishing the river there and north of there. Best fishing I have had in a LONG time, canada included. We did mostly fish north of there below the dam about 20 miles up river but there was a great bait shop across the river in Chamberlain that had great information and a good little "Hot Spots" book that helped up a lot! We also fished the river in the evening right behind our tent and caught some nice fish there too! I would not hesitate to go back there at all, as a matter of fact I was trying to talk my Canada trip group into trying this place out this year instead of Canada. Another plus is that it is right where I-90 crosses the river so getting there is really easy!

I have been to Sakakawea in N. Dakota and liked staying at Indian Hills Resort there but we were there when the lake was REALLY low and the weather we had REALLY stunk for the week were were there. Result: We drove a really long way to catch one Northern Pike. I have heard that the fishing has been good since the lake is back up but haven't tried since.

If I was you I would come up to north dakota probably to Lake Sakakawea to either the Van Hook arm or to the White Earth Bay area we were at Van Hook in late June around the 25th and limited out 2 days out of 3 we were catching 2 and 3 pounders in the little knife bay area on bottom bouncer, spinner, crawler rigs and by the main boat dock we were trolling crankbaits (Rapala shad raps) and every once in a while we would get one on a thunderstick we were trolling these at about 1.2 miles an hour with our trolling motor, with these two crankbaits we were catching from about 4-6 pounders at white earth bay we were catching 2 to 4 pounders most of the time we only threw back 2 out of about 25 fish they were catching them out by the island and on the east bay on the rocks in about 12 feet of water remember to bring rain gear and lots of warm clothes and preferably a deep-v boat the waves can get pretty big but so can the fish i'm only 15 but i know what i'm talking about because that's practically all I did this summer

I forgot one thing Van Hook is extremely good in mid august I personally think it is better than June and July although these two months are good also but if you are planning to go before april or may go to the confluence on the missouri river near williston, nd
