Guess I should have put this on the Hunting Dog forum.
Here's a link to some pics of my lab, blue, after a day of pheasant hunting. http://walleye.outdoorsfirst.com/boa...osts=1&start=1 Tight Lines All, Shep |

Hey Shep,
Great looking dog by the way but, I have question for you. I noticed my three year old mutt's nose is also changing color along with some it's fur which is turning grey. Do you any idea what causes this skin color change? Thanks, Art |

There's some great info on that subject at the above link. Also, if you go to Ask.com and put "What causes a dog's nose to change color?" in the ask bar...it will come up with a ton of info on the subject. Do you use a plastic or rubber food/water dish? If so, many dogs are somewhat allergic to them, and the result will be a discolored nose over time. Juls |

Thanks Juls
I think it's the following 4) Vitiligo can cause loss of pigment of the nose and it may also be part of a syndrome of immune mediated disease in which hypothyroidism also occurs, so perhaps this is the link to loss of color of the nose and hypothyroidism but if it is, the hypothyroidism is thought to occur after another disorder causes the color change. Dogs with vitiligo normally have development of patches of white hair or white hairs scattered in the hair coat. I don't think that loss of pigment in the nasal planum only is likely with this condition. But, I wonder. Here's why. My Lab, Rott mix had brown spots above it's eye's, like a Rott should but, after it turned three, the spots disappeared. I guess it really wanted to be a Lab.LOL My other dog with the discoloration (Blue Healer/ Rott)is now having discoloration of it's fur around it's head along with the nose. Black head with white patches forming. I was beginning to wonder if it truly wanted to become a Blue Healer.LOL And, by the way. They both use Stainless bowls for eating and drink. As always, Thanks again. Art |
