Default hummingbird c Si 997 tips?

I just got a hummingbird c Si 997 combo. The book doesn't say too much other than operating instructions. I am puting this on my 2002 1800 explorer and wondered if any of you have put one on a similar rig like mine and had any tips regarding transducer placement and whether a transducer placed by it for the bow fishfinder would interfere. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I second the Yahoo Group. Some great folks there.

Also a few recomendations. Use two transducers and the AS SIDB Y cable. Mount the SI transducer higher on the transom so it doesn't get hit by anyting unexpectedly, then work real hard at placing the high speed down looking transducer in a spot with smooth water flow.

I have a few pictures if you would like to see them. I could e-mail them to you.

If you have any other questions, just shoot me an e-mail at johnnie@gondtc.com

Best of luck,

for now, the factory default settings are very good.

Take a while to truly learn what it is showing you to begin with, and then finesse the settings.

The key to seeing structure is to simply turn the machine on.

The key to seeing fish, is very very specific settings that you will learn, after you make sure that all of your transducers are installed and reading properly.

Stick with the defaults to begin with. They do a nice job.

I prefer the Xumba site, and find the yahoo site very difficult to navigate around in. I dont know why. It jumps all over the place on my browser.

Congrats you will be amazed at the structure you`ll find that you never new was there. Gives a whole to meaning to spot on the spot.

I was so used to Lowrance and Eagle products that when I first started running my SI Bird I had my scroll and sensitivity set way to high. Too fast on the scrol speed and I loose a lot of detail. If I am trollintg I`ll run my scroll at 4-6.

Thanks guys. The sites were very helpful. This hummingbird is just fascinating I've spend many hours messing with it and learning all the features and can't seem to stop looking at all the lake maps of where i've fished.

Very informative. LOL, they said throw the manual away after you buy the unit. I've had my sensitivity too high and graph speed too fast. They start their sensitivity at 6 or 7, and their graph speed at 4 to 6 (sometimes as low as 3). They also start their right and left distance between 75 and 125, usually about 100. I was using 3 x the depth. So I guess I'll start off with my sensitivity about 7 now and my graph speed about about 5.

I also learned the you can zoom a recording - never thought of trying.

It's supposed to be 70 down here on Friday. I may have to get the boat out and play!
