Is it a Ficht? If it is most will say stay away, but most of these people saying that have never owned one it seems. I have no experience with a V6 Ficht, but my V4 Ficht seems to be holding up fine. I am sure some one will chime in, hopefully it will be Eric Olsen I think he has ran that motor and he knows BRP products well.

Bombardier bought up some of the former OMC items at the bankruptcy auction and then improved the product and built a new state of the art manufacturing facility in Wisconsin. They produced the 2002 and later motors and those were significantly improved outboards compared to the old OMC ones built in Illinois facilities.

Any Johnson-Evinrude motor 2002 or newer is good.

I have a 04 Evinrude direct injection 150. It runs like a champ. Smooth power and has never even burped. I changed the plugs in it last spring even though they didnt need it. It is easy on oil and very easy on gas.
I have had no problems at all with it. I would guess it has around 200 hrs. by now.
I met a guy at the lake that had the same motor in a 225 or 250 (cant recall but it was big) and he said he had no problems either and his had high hours. I would buy another. From 02 up to the E-tecs are good motors.(looks like the E-tecs are good to).

I had an 2003 250 DI on my last rig, it was a pretty good motor, they will chew up plugs unless you use the new plugs they use in the Etec's, I had it one year and had to replace a fuel pump and throttle position control sensor. Otherwise it was a good motor, very good on oil consumption but loved gas alot of gas. My Pro XS uses 30-35% less I would estimate.
