Anyone tried the Die Hard "Platinum" series marine batteries? Looking for a new group 31 dual purpose and the specs on this battery as well as the warranty looked impressive. Any feed back?
Thanks, RJ in Montana |

I have been extremely pleased with the DieHard Platinum AGM batteries. I have been using the Group 31's in both starting and trolling functions. I have all of my electonics and outboard working off of the starting battery and the trolling motor working off of the other. I have a 17.5 ft Lund Mr. Pike and only have a 12 volt Minnkota Power drive. The trolling motor is WAY under powered for the boat so it draws alot of power from that single 12 volt battery. I am so impressed that I can get through an 8 hour day running my trolling motor very hard.....these Sears Diehard Platinum batteries are by far the best I have used.....

I put in a group 34m for my starting and two group 31m's for my powerdrive. I'm also underpowered as far as electric trolling motor go...but it's what the boat came with. I'm extremely pleased so far...plenty of power without a lick of trouble. I've had a couple of Wallymart batteries give out...I think too much bouncing and vibration for them going down gravel roads.
Anyway...Two thumbs up from me...Good Luck, Wayne |

They are awesome batteries, I only have one in my boat right now, slowly replacing Optima's that crapped out on me after only 20 months with NO replacement what a dissapointment there, 3 year warranty on the platniums I know 4 friends who's boats are loaded with these batteries and they are extremely happy, they are running them in Starcraft STX's and 621's and 620's, ZERO failure's or issues yet, they can troll ALL day on a terrova one guy replaced his optima's and noticed longer and more power trolling with the terrova right off the bat.

Hey K..From your post I take it they are using them as dedicated Deep Cycles for the bowmounts? I picked up a group 31 Platnum on Sunday to use as my cranking/electronics battery. I was impressed with the 205min. res. capacity for all day electronics and livewell/aerator functions but at the same time the battery produces 1150 CCA!! Impressive numbers for a combo use battery. I had been using a Trojan SCS225 for the same purpose for the last 3/4 of a year and while it will handle all the boat acc. issues no problem it is lacking as a cranking battery for my Yamaha after long days. It has never failed to turn over the F200 but often the shortage of cranking amps leads to my console GPS powering down on start up and this makes me nervous. I got a new Terrova comming and am upgrading from a 24V system to a 36V so I moved the SCS225 up front as my 3rd batt and will give the Die Hard 31-Platnum a try. It seems to have better numbers as a combo..I know the SCS225 is not a "Dual Purpose" batt by design but thought I'd give it a try. Just isn't working out..I'm anxious to get the Die Hard wired in..Thanks for the input..RJ in Montana

yes they are using them for strickly bow mount, my console GPS is shutting down on my sometimes when on the water for over 8 hours and when starting my motor as well, my boat needs 2 new batteries just haven't gotten them yet. So far they are hanging on and I'm not going to replace them until they completely crap out on me since they are so costly.
I was honstly thinking about even going with Duralast's, 3 year replacement, why spend 250 on a battery when I can spend 75 and get the same warranty, for how hard I am on batteries what benefit does the 250 battery give me over the 75 battery you know? During the spring and fall when I fish the most and out at night alot up to 4 days per week I just know the disscharging and running of the bow mount is just killing the batteries running the Terrova so much, I'm almost thinking it's not worth the extra coin in going the high dollar batteries when if I burn the duralast out I get a new one anyways. Just thinking outloud here. Cost vs benefit you know. |

I put them in my Mr. Pike 16 this spring when I got my boat. I have five series 31 Platinum's in this boat. I fish a lot of trolling motor only lakes that are fairly large and windy. I have a 24 volt 80lb thrust Riptide on the bow, and an 82lb thrust 24 volt Motorguide on the stern. Another series 31 cranks my 90 HP Suzuki four stroke, along with two fishfinders, a gps, both livewells, stereo, and anchor winches. Always plenty of juice.
After a full day of fishing 8-10 hours, all batteries are usually topped off in less than four hours using Minnkota chargers. I love the fact that they are maintenance free. That's what separates them from the Trojan's. If you don't stay on top of your water levels, you will lose performance. So far I'm extremely happy and impressed with the Die Hards. Its also nice to know that Sears is great on warranties. BTW. Holeshot is still outstanding in the Mr. Pike with all of those twelve volts! |
