Default HDS8 Waypoint Problems

I just purchased an HDS8 and have played with it a bit. I am noticing that my waypoints will not show up that I have saved on my Dakotas chip. One of my friends said that I have to load/upload them to my unit, how do I go about this?

Thanks, Cody

I'm not familiar with your unit (read this entirely before doing anything) but, I'll give it a try to get ya close. Plug in your chip and then turn your unit on. Go to your menu and search for something that says data, save or load. You want to save the data so highlight save and hit enter. this will put all the info on the chip into your unit. DO NOT try this with a pre-loaded mapped factory chip it will destroy itself. I'm sure you are talking about a MMC card or memory stick that you have taken icons and waypoints from another unit that had your Dakotas chip in? Surf your menu options until you find something that says transfer data or something simular and hit save and enter. The unit will read the chip and transfer the data (Waypoints, trips, routes and icons etc...). Someone will reply with the exact buttons to push but this should get ya started and should work...
A pre-loaded chip will not have your waypoints and icons on it. The icons and waypoints will be in the data in the unit the chip was in. You need a blank card to load the waypoint info and then put it in your unit. Then, when you put the chip in of the maps of the Dakotas the icons-waypoints will be there...ONCE AGAIN DO NOT TRY TO TRANSFER THE DATA FROM A FACTORY PRE-LOADED CHIP, YOU'LL FRY IT. Also when tranfering data make sure all pre-loaded chips are not in the unit. Some units hold two!

go to the page that has the gear/wrench on it

select files
then select memory card
highlight your wp file
then at the bottom of your 8 you will see import
press import and there ya go

if you have a 5 or 7 you hit menu when the file is highlighted and then select import
