Default Mille Lacs Lake - Weekend Outlook 6-3-2010

The bite on Mille Lacs has been pretty good so far - most folks are finding their fish in the deeper water on the mud flats and the deep gravel. In an interesting twist, we're also seeing some shoreline fish over the last few days! During a "normal" year we'll see the shoreline areas stay hot for the first few weeks, only to tail off to a deeper bite as the water warms. With the early spring this year, most anglers struggled in the shallow water around the opener and made a quick transition to the deep. It's interesting to see such a wide range of fishable water - success scattered from 5 to 35 feet! Leeches are your top bait, followed closely by nightcrawlers. Evening is noticably better than the mid-day - not to say that the daytime is "bad", the evening is just that much better. Some of the better spots this week include Indian Point, Lakeside, Schultz's and Otto's Reef.

Remember, the "night ban" is in effect on Mille Lacs. No one may fish for any species or possess fishing gear on the lake from 10 p.m. through 6 a.m. starting at 10 p.m. on May 17 and ending at 12:01 a.m. on June 14. We have yellow stickers at our shop with the 2010 regulations printed on them... stop in and pick one up - there's no charge!
