A friend and I attended the rally over the weekend in Washington DC. It was a fabulous event. Regardless of one's political persuasion, race, age, or gender, it was an event for the ages. Despite what some in the media wanted Americans to believe, those in attendance were extremely well behaved. I stood beside one young man from Venezuala who was being interviewed by a foreign reporter. The reporter said something to the affect, "why are you here, you aren't white, you aren't American", and to this young man's credit he said, "you're missing the point, this isn't about race, this is about all of us, this is about all races, and this is about putting God back into our lives and living the way God wants us to live". I leaned forward through the crowd to shake his hand but the white crowd surrounding this young man had already engulfed him in a huge embrace. We live in a world filled with hatred, cynicism, and a "me first" mentality, but not that day. I have to say that there were times, as I sat near the reflecting pool looking up through the trees and listening to the inspired presentations, that I could feel the prescence of God. There were moments that were the most beautiful moments I can remember since the birth of my children. We weren't black, white, yellow, or brown skinned people that day, we were all childen of God. It was a day I'll never forget, and a message I hope I'll take with me the rest of my life. Is there hope for mankind, is there hope for our nation? There is.

I trimmed this thread and I'm going to lock it because I don't see anything wrong with the initial post or first few responses but from there it went pure political.
But.....religion is another subject left for a different website. We have proven it can't be discussed here either. I have nothing against religion or politics........so don't get the wrong idea. But, I don't use this website to promote my religious or political views.......and I ask everyone else to do the same. Last edited by Golden; 08-30-2010 at 08:55 PM. |
