Default sons first deer bbd

Have been taking my son during youth season for 3 years. Have always seen deer but never had a shot I'd give him the green light on until last Sunday. It was almost comical. We had a doe fly by us at 20 yd. No stopping her, she did finally stop about 70 yd out too far for Ben. About a minute later we hear another one coming same trail. I stopped her at 20 yds. I tell him to take her but he doesn't shoot. He said he had a tree in the way. I think he had the fever.

Took a couple minutes to calm him down. The same doe spun back around same trail but turned off right before shooting lane. After a couple more minutes we could here another one the other direction. I told my son to be ready this one will be on the same trail. When the deer emerged from the brush it was a good Buck. I whispered be ready. The Buck was about to hit the shooting lane and he turn 90°… right to us. My son adjusted and shot him, 15 ft from the tree we were in. He said after "I'm not sure who is more excited dad". If he only knew!

That evening while telling a friend we were discussing our own first deer. It never dawned on me until then my first deer came from a stand I hung 20 years earlier. Not but 30 yds further up the same trail! This is a small private woods we own I haven't hunted for nearly 20 years until this year. Lol

congrats on the NICE buck! your son has a lot to do to top that buck next year

i remember my first deer, i was 11 and shot it in my socks because i had just walked a field and my grandpa didnt want muddy boots in his truck. got driving out of the field only to have a small buck emerge from some trees next to the field, jumped out right into a mud puddle and fired away. 278 yards later, i had my first deer

Default Green light

Wow. Great buck and great story. Thast a green light any day for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, well you get the point. That's a heck of a bonus for waiting 3 years for the green light.

Congrats,

Bill
