Default Is Merc 150 HP 4 Stroke enough for 1875 Lund ProV

Pretty close to ordering this boat and would like to put the 150 merc 4 stroke on it. At the sports show this weekend, the Lund rep looked it up and said about 48 mph. I know you guys always preach to max out HP but it is rated for a 200 and you know Lund and Merc! I do not think it will hurt resale too bad. Thanks for your thoughts.

Either the Yamaha F150 or the new merc 4 stroke should push it about the same at 48 or so depending on load. . . . But, I would be very very leary about putting on a first year merc before it has been proven over couple years and got their bugs if any fixed first unless you want to be a guiena pig. That saying, I'd go with the bulletproof F150 or the F200, or if you want to stay with merc, go with the 200hp and max it out and get it over with.

The 1875 you're looking at is pretty close, spec-wise (length, beam, weight) to the Alumacraft 185 Sport that has engine mfg tests with both the Yammi F150 and the new Merc 150 4S.

While I agree with hanging close to the maximum hp on a hull, going to a 200 Mercury will weigh 55# than the Merc 150 4S, the Yamaha F200 weighs 148# more than the Mercury.

Or:
Consider the Suzuki 150 or 175 for this rig.
These motors have been out for a couple of years and are great well proven excellent designs.

Default Tweener

Just wrote contracts for two 1875 ProV Ifs on Saturday to two friends. They both want yami's which is not a problem to do. The trouble is Yami really doesn't have a motor for this tweener size with a 25" transom. The 200 hp will get this boat to mid 50's easily and the 150 I'm guessing will get close to 50. The new 150 from Merc is supposed to be quite the beast torque wise, I don't see any issues moving the boat full of passengers with the 150. The 200 L4 Verado would be be best of both worlds speed and power. Trouble with Yami is the 25" shaft, the only 2 options you have is the 200HPDI or the big 200 4 stroke at almost 600lbs or ya just hang the F150 yami. Between both buyers one got the F150 and the other the HPDI so we will see the performance difference. If Yami came out with a 200 offshore 25" I think they would both switch motor choice.

How much more is the 200. I wouldnt do a 150 under any circumstance. Especially a 4 stroke. You will not be happy and will always be wondering what the 200 would have given you. Get the 200 verado. For what you will pay for that rig it really shouldnt matter a few buck more. Just my opinion.

I run a 1800 pro v with 150 Verado. With full load of gear, kicker and 2 people I average between 46 & 48. With light load and 1 person I have touched 51. If you can swing the Verado it will give you great performance even at altitude.

Not trying to be a weinie but this is such a personal choice. I know guys that are perfectly content to run 90HP's on bigger hulls, and others that think anything less than 100% of plate capacity is insane. How fast is fast for you? Certainly this combination will get you down the lake with a top end approx. 45mph and an easily cruise without excessively revving. My two cents is a 150 will not hurt your resale one bit. Yes you're going to get less when you sell it, but likley I don't think there will be a penalty cost.

Default Its all in the Hull design and Load

Guys, Ive noticed the Lunds really do run efficient, for instance the 1775 Impact ss with Huge beam and being just under 18ft long runs 46mph with a 115 4stroke, same with the optimax.......Ive tested them both, the 1825 Explorer with a 150 Optimax is a Monster!!!! Over 50mph, and Remember, its a Aluminum fishing boat, not a Glass Bass Boat.....**** a Ranger 188 bass boat with a 150 only runs 52-55 on gps, so these lunds are Haulin the Mail for sure.....Id go 150 4stroke Merc or Honda, because of ease of factory rigging, or pay for the 150 Verado and receive a 175.......the 200 is Killer but I dont think its needed on a 18 deep v, but go for it if it matters to you.....The last motors Id suggest on the boats are the Zuki (no service centers) or the Yamaha because of Scotts concerns up top, however we dont argue motors on Walleye Central
