My brother was nice enough to buy me a winch for my boat trailer. The winch is a Haul-Master - 3000 lb capacity - rolling stock capacity of 9500 lbs (just reading of the box) purchased at Habor Frieght.
My question is: Will this be adequate enough to pull my 1850 Lund tyee Magnum onto my Lund Heritage bunked trailer? The boat has a 200 merc with a 9.9 kicker and of course all the stuff to go fishing. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for any and all help.

Your winch should be just fine. The general rule is the winch should be half the weight of your loaded boat motor trailer.I have a 1900 lund pro v with a 200 efi plus 9.9 pro kicker fully loaded weighs 4150lbs.I would think your boat is in this ball park. That said your winch would not be underated until 6000 lbs.Now if you pull your boat out of the water and on level ground and your short of being to the roller its very hard to winch the boat tight without going back in the water with any winch.Hope this helps

On the 3000lb capacity trailer that ShoreLand'r usually packages with Lund 1850 Tyee ... they use a DL18002A winch (1800lb).
Even on their Tandem 4000# Trailer they use this winch... (That's what I have on my 20' Lund). You should be fine if it fits in the spot ok. Last edited by T Mac; 01-12-2012 at 03:43 PM. |

1850,
Was this an electric winch? I checked the site and only saw an electric winch in this lb rating. A 3000 lb winch is more than adequate for your rig. The only thing that I question, is the brand. I do buy products from Harbor freight now and then to meet certain needs. As long as I buy the products with in the guide lines that I have personally set up, they are just fine. Just be advised, that the adage about - "you get what you pay for" is certainly true. Harbor freight products are generally quite inexpensive. If that particular grade of product meets your need for the application for which you purchase it - great. I personally purchase Harbor freight products for specialized items that I use infrequently, and very light use situations. Under these conditions, I generally find that their products are fine. However, if the grade product that you purchase that that particular outlet does not meet your needs for that particular product, it might be good to look elsewhere. If you decide to mount this particular product on your trailer, carefully go over single part of the winch to insure that the entire product is up to snuff for what you need the winch to do. Good luck with your rig. REW |

I had a Harbor Frieght electric winch on my Crestliner 1850 I/O which was pretty heavy. I cannot remember the model but it was around $60. That I do remember lol
It worked just fine for the 5 years I had it. The only thing I did not like about it was that it was a power out, it did not have an option for freewheel out. So when I loaded the boat, I had to wait for the winch to pay out the cable so I could hook the boat up to it. It was still on there when I sold the boat. My Dutton Lainston I have for my Grady allows for both freewheel and power out. But it lists for $479 and has a 15000 lb rating

This is the only 3000lb winch I saw on HF. I would think an atv winch would work good. Its made to be outside, free spools, etc.
IF its an ATV winch, you would need a switch and I think a wireless remote would be nice for the boat. Its nuts that these are only $15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-12-Volt-...item3f1222bb89 http://www.harborfreight.com/3000-lb...ake-68145.html Last edited by drbrand; 01-23-2012 at 08:01 PM. |
