It started and the motor ran well but my auger porton would not turn, even at full nothing almoast like the clutch was slipping or something. After about 60 seconds the auger engaged. It says in the manual that some clutch slippage is normal up until 1-2 hours of running time but I thought that what I was experiencing was excessive. This continued for a few more days and finaly I had had enough, I called Eskimo and they said I was experiencing what they called overpacking of grease and that I could take it to a dealer to have it fixed. My only issue to that was I live 2 1/2 hours from one, so I split the case myself and too much grease was an understatement, and the grease was thicker than molasses (warm) so I cleaned out 90% of it put it back together and it still does the same thing but not as bad. I think i might open the case again and put in a diffenent low temp grease that was recommended by one of the warranty shop mechanics that I talked too. I would love to just hand it over to the shop for the warranty work but me being that far just sucks. Anyone have this trouble before? If considering an Eskimo be aware. I can't imagine them using that thick of grease and that much, maybe it might be the wrong stuff that someone put in by mistake. I just thought I would let everyone know.
I got 2 Z71 and exact same problem, In -25c they barely turn

I got a Mako last weekend as a backup. The dual chipper blades are impressive. Cuts like a dream and I know I can sharpen them. My only concern with Eskimo is the cheap almost disposable chinese engines which Im sure is why you can buy these augers for under $300. It runs sweet now but I am uncertain about longevity and already heard negative comments from two people in the repair business.
These are NOT the Tecumseh powered units of years past.

I have noticed on my Z71 when it is cold out it takes some drilling till the grease gets warmed up then it drills fast.

Maybe I should open the case and have a looksie.
