Default Eskimo Auger Blades

What do you guys figure is the amount of holes you can drill before you need to replace or sharpen your blades. I figure I have 150-200 holes this year and my blades are definatley dull. Is that about right?

I would have to say we have about 350-400 holes on ours, but its a pro-4 with the chipper blades and still cuts like a MF'er!

Mine are 2 years old. I bet I have ran nearly 4 gallons of fuel through my auger since I first bought it with the same blades. I have touched them up with a blade sharpener.

I was cutting some holes today and I am sure it was going through weeds, small tree branches and there had to be sand and silt in the ice. Not the best, but I retouched them up after that and they still cut the same before and after.

I would also think they would last less if your drilling through 3 feet of ice, but they should last more than 200 holes.

Hmm, they are just not biting like they did when new. I have to actually push, instead of the blades digging in themselves. I'm going to replace them and see what the differeance is. At least replacements are only $26 for the Eskimo. Not to bad compared to others i have seen

I had a Shark from 2006 until this winter. My blades were shot this year, and I'm going to guess I had over 300 holes on the Quantum blades. Don't bang the auger on the ice, and keep the blade guard on whenever possible.

Got dirty ice over by you?

Just thought of something - check your blades to be sure they are bolted on tight. If the blades are off by even a few degrees, they won't cut properly.

depends how much ice and how you take care of your blades (protection)...i just replaced mine this year and I a, sure I had over 500 holes on that set. I could have kept running them a while but I thought they were getting alittle dull so I had one of the mill wrights at work sharpen them and they were junk after that......

New blades were fairly cheap for my Z71 and now she once again cuts great! Fastest auger on the market!

No, dirty ice really were I'm at. The bolts where tight so maybe I hit something while drilling. There were a couple of knicks out of one of the blades. Time will tell.

If you can see a couple knicks, then chances are they are dulled. Either put new ones on of try touching them up with a auger blade sharpener.

Always keep your blade guard on.
Let the auger do the work.
Never drill in frozen over old used holes.

Im going on 4 yrs. with mine....

My Eskimo blades can last between one trip and two years- literally. One trip of dirty ice and they are shot. Sometimes you can't see the dirt in the ice well but you sure can tell the next trip.

I've sent mine in to get sharpened and always have a spare set handy for this reason.
