I have list the definition below but to many you know what this is. I am 51 and I have now been told twice to live with my new condition. I have been trying Acupuncture , she also had me do an MRI and I will be seeing a specilist this Wednesday.
Has anyone had any relief, and if so what have you tried. Tinnitus (TIN-i-tus) is noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 1 in 5 people. Tinnitus isn't a condition itself — it's a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a circulatory system disorder. Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn't a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with treatment. Treating an identified underlying cause sometimes helps. Other treatments reduce or mask the noise, making tinnitus less noticeable |

I first had tinnitus a few years ago and mine was not just ringing but got so loud I was convinced I was hearing a rock crusher in the distance. After a few months it went away and then came back again and went away and came back. I eventually found that it coincided with periods where I consumed a lot of ice cream on a regular basis. Lots of sugar in ice cream and I suspect that is the culprit in my case. It would take a week after I quit eating ice cream for the sounds to go away.
I stopped eating lots of sugary foods and have not had another occurance since. Thank goodness for that as the sound was driving me crazy. There is some stuff on the web about diet and tinnitus. You never know if that is the culprit till you start cutting stuff out. |

I have had it since 1978 after working in a stamping plant
its there all the time, I just live with it it doesnt really bug me unless I think about it after reading this, I am thinking about it mine is not really that loud, hard to describe. If you did not have it then you had what I have, you would probably think its really loud. It never changes, never gets louder or quieter the diet comments are interesting. I am going to ask my doctor about it

After the military I noticed the constant ringing. Have more or less grown used to it although some days it masks about everything but the louder conversations and back ground noises.
Yea, it gets annoying, but there isn't any cure so acceptance seems to be the only fix. It seems to be nerve damage and there isn't a fix for that. As long as I don't dwell on it I'm OK. Good luck. Pooch

I have had it for about 4 years, high pitch noise that came from the turbine engines. Nothing they can do about it you get used to it after awhile. My doc said that Acupuncture/Acupresure was a waste of time and money.

Mine is in my left ear I say it sounds like a hiss in an old tape player. I went to a very good ENT and basically told me to live with it. I had a lot of ear problems as a kid, almost flunked 2nd grade because had blockage causing 80 percent hearing loss, surgery fixed it. I try to protect my remaining hearing by wearing hearing protection when I use power tools, shooting guns, etc. It is my understanding that certain things can exacerbate the problem. Alcohol, caffeine, and stress. Good luck !

Myself as well for over ten years, since the age of 40
I have it loud and in stereo, never a quiet moment Mine first stared within the military come & go, then there was this one year out on our property in WI deer hunting, I figured that year i would place a simple roof over my head to help stay dry, still had nothing but 4' poly tarp sides. That *&^*%% buck was not worth this forever reminder. I read about some new procedures that may help, listing to sounds that will help make the brain ignore/desensitized the ringing |

You can get a product at the pharmacy called Lipoflavanoids. A lot of people have told me it works quite well. And for the number of people that ask for it, with it costing $20-30, it must work okay. Look in the vitamin/supplement section. No guarantee, but probably worth a try.

I have had it for 12 years.
Constant ringing in the ears. Sounds like air leaving an auto tire. Sometimes will fade from ear to ear. Have noticed loudness will fluctuate throughout the day. Most of the time I forget about it. At first, 12 years ago, it was tough to fall asleep. I believe mine was caused/triggered by flying 1200+ mile trip with a sinus /head cold/ear combination problem. I see an audiologist each May for a hearing test, while I have had a mild hearing loss, my hearing has stabilized. Certainly wish there was an effective treatment. A ton of bogus stuff out there!
