Default propman 621 & F250

I have a 2004 Ranger 621 with a 2009 Yamaha F250. I'm currently running a Rev-4 in 21 pitch. It gives me a fair holeshot and topend speed of 50-52. I've tried a Saltwater 2 in 21" and got a better topend but worse holeshot. I also tried a Saltwater 2 in 23", it came out of the hole real slow but I could hit 60 MPH with it. I'd like to get a better holeshot without giving up any more topend speed than with the Rev-4 if possible. What prop would you recommend for this combination?

What rpms where you running? The powertech OFS4 has a better holeshot than the rev4.

The motor has a 6,000 redline and the Rev-4 will get up to it with a moderate load and probably 6,200 with a light load if I let it.

The OFS 4 will have a better holeshot, be less trim sensitive and run at or nearly at the same speed as the Rev 4.

The large dia also helps in rough water

The OFS 4 is a VERY driver friendly prop (i.e. very easy to drive with little to no trim adjustmets once up and running)

Like JAK said the Powertech OFS4 has a better holeshot. Stay with a 21 pitch if going with the OFS4.

Would the top-end speed of the OFS4 be better, worse, or the same as the Rev-4? And when you say the OFS4 has a better holeshot are you talking marginally or majorly better? It's a lot of money to spend for an extra prop unless I know I'm going to get some decent holeshot improvement without sacrificing my top-end speed any further than I already have.

Fishoil

Are you running a 620 or a 621 and the reason I ask is I ran a 620 with that engine and I was closer to 60 mph with a Yamaha 23p V-Max prop and my boat is lighter then a 621. The 23P was a dog out of the hole but had the best mid and top end and a 21P Tempest was the best prop but still a little slow out of the hole.........

Default Rpm's

Fish,

What were you running for rpms with the 21p Saltwater 2. I am looking for a spare prop and am considering the Rev 4 as an option. My motor seems pretty strong and I turn 6000 with the Saltwater 2. It's a big prop and was trying to compare it to your performance. Your motor seems pretty strong as well to be able to turn a 23p Saltwater 2 at 60 and still get out of the hole. Are you running a foil on your boat? This may change the rec from Propman.

Thanks,

Bill

I haven't ran the Saltwater 2's in a while but if my memory is correct I was able to get around 5900 with the 21 and somewhat less with the 23. I'm not certain on the 23 but I think it was around 5600. The 21 comes out of the hole a little slower than the Rev-4 but has a couple more MPH on top. With the 23 you almost had enough time to eat a sandwich while taking off, but it had great top end. When I got 60MPH out of the 23 I was running really light with 2 guys in the boat and a perfect chop. Under normal conditions that prop would be way to much, the 21 is a much better choice for my boat. I am not running a foil on the motor either. Let me know if I can answer anything else for you.

Bill I ran the rev 21 last weekend had to try out the new lower unit I got 6000 RPM could have went a little more but I had enough repairs already this year anyway hit just about 54 MPH with F250/08 620 I got about the same with the saltwater but the saltwater was way slower out of the hole. Motor is mounted on the top hole. Also installed a windshield Monday hoping to still get the same.
