I'm sort of interested to hear what people thought of the lake. The tight slot stinks for tourney fishing but did you guys and gals have fun catching fish? Enjoy the community?

I would have to say its one of the best walleye fisheries but it's no place for a big tournament with a slot like that. We did enjoy our stay and did find a good place to eat and have a few cold ones. It was our first NTC so we didn't really know what to expect but everyone was pretty helpful and helped us find our way. Ill be back to fish Mille lacs again but not for a tournament.

Its true that that type of tight slot makes it tough. But unlike most tournaments where you can lose it on the first day, this one your always only one bite away from possibly winning the whole thing. That gives everyone a chance to win. It doesnt matter how fast your boat is, it doesnt matter how fancy your electronics and equipment are you are only one big bite away. And if you were there, you saw that not everyone had a fancy boat and such, but they still had a chance, they just needed one big bite. Unfortunately, my big bite came the day before the NTC started.

Awesome lake. Had a blast and would like to go back but hate dragging my boat for 16 hours. We got two overs in prefish yet could not find any in the tournament. Its kinda funny when you get excited for catching a 16.5 inch walleye yet kinda bummed when the 25 incher comes to the boat. Dont take me wrong, a 25 inch eye here in CO is pretty rare and we enjoyed hooking into those too.
The people were great. Spent many an evening at local (to Isle) eateries and never had bad service. One thing I did find that is contrary to what others said is that our unders came pretty much on the same spots as the slot fish and overs. We worked one area for 2.5 days straight and on one pass would pick up a slot fish, the next pass pick up an under. We had 5 unders in the box by 12:15 and 8:30 each morning yet just could not get the over fish like we did in prefish. Awesome lake, great people. |

I thought it was a phenominal experience. I agree with Walleyebry I like the fact that everyone is always in it. We had one weighable fish the first day took a zero the second day and I would go back in a heart beat. I've never caught so many quality walleye. Most people would be upset with a 208th place finsh but not this crew after the week of non stop 24"-27-7/8" fish it was a blast. Thank you for the experience. And Izatys resort is a beautiful place with a friendly staff. We found alot of the locals to be very helpful.. Thanks again.

Good, glad to hear that most had fun. It's my home lake and a person always wonders how it stacks up against others around the country. (Non Great Lakes I mean)
The AIM format would be a hoot out there. Cheers, Adam |

I agree with Adam on this. The crr format would rock. I bet you will see AIM fish this incredible body of water someday.
You will see some major weights get crr'd for this event. jt |

Not to sound negative as I like the AIM format on a lot of lakes. But on Mille Lacs those mid to upper 20 inch fish are so common that it wouldnt make much difference and you would still probably need a over 28 inch fish to win.
