Default Kabetogama With Kids

I am taking my family to Kabetogama for a week beginning June 9. Did the same thing last year, same week. Finally got into a few walleyes about halfway through our week dragging a nightcrawler harness on a sandy flat in 12 to 18 ft of water. In fact, my 12-yr-old daughter caught her first 2 walleyes ever on this sandy flat. Very exciting, but that's all the walleyes she caught all week. Any advice out there as to depth, type of structure, time of day, or type of presentation for better walleye production so that I can keep my daughters content during this week? We are staying on the west end.

Skin,
To keep your daughter happy, do some checking with the local bait shops to find the typical Crappie and sunnie locations.

It is pretty tough to keep kids happy with walleye fishing where you might catch one fish every couple of hours.

But with pan fish, you can often be catching a fish every time you flip the line into the water.

Simple rig, hook line bobber and worms or small jig of hair or plastic.

There are lots and lots of panfish in this lake. Just do some sniffing around to find the active fish and spots.

Just returned from Kab after now 7 yrs of trips. There are some perch here and there. Some crappie, more so in Namikan just downstream, but still hard to find. I caught the first bluegill our resort had ever seen from Kab/Upper Nam - so panfishing is not going to work for a kid.
Now "slimer" northerns, that is fast and furious - any weed area seems to hold several.
General reports are that the fish are one month advanced due to the very early ice out. Acting more like July now than June. The kind of fishing you did before may be what you will have to do again...

That said, we did very, very well this past week. Was beginning to ge tired of eating walleye, so that we would have something to do the next day.

We arrived at 3:30 yesterday and my 13-yr-old daughter caught a 17-in smallie and a 19-in walleye last evening. She didn't get out fishing today; tough going with all the wind. My 10-yr-old daughter has been swimming so has not had time to fish. Life is good on Kab.

Skin Dog will find enough fish to keep the daughters and himself happy. He is a multi species veteran and can usually come up with some fish.

Too bad I just saw this. We were up there camping last weekend and had good luck also. Even tho the F'n wind wrecked my poor tent sunday. If yer still up there try the south side of pine island east to west towards the rock marker with a minnowed up jig. Fish were easy to find, gonna hafta start goin to Nam soon. And a blue gill?! LOL I don't think I've ever seen one.
