New Trailer Tires needed

This weekend on the way home from Mille Lacs I blew out one of my tires and am looking for suggestions as to what I should replace it with.

I have a 2004 Shoreland'r #2400 that holds my 1700 Lund Explorer. I have had some major issues with the trailer, but after having it to a trailer shop and having it aligned I think that it is ok.

The tire blew going 65 mph and the temp was 90 F. The tires are rated for a max Pressure of 50 and I had both at 48. The hubs repacked last fall and I greased the hubs this spring. THe tires were 3 years old with probably 6,000 miles on them and slight wear on the outsides due to the misaligned trailer. I was told by the trailer shop that this was ok and not severe. Did this happen just as a coincidence or is there something I should have checked?

I had Titan ST185/80R13 Tires on the trailer. Is this what I should replace it with or is there something better?

What is the difference between a ST185/80R13 and a ST185/80D13?

a ST185/80R-13 is a radial tire, probably load range C, rated at 1480# at 50psi.

a ST185/80D-13 normally is a bias-ply tire, rated at 1725# at 65psi.

FWIW, when I weighed my 1700 Explorer/75 Opti tiller, packed with stuff for a trip, the weight on the axle was 2800#. I'd suggest you get your rig weighed, and see if you still have a potentially undersized trailer.

Replace your tires every 3-4 years regardless of mileage. The stress of the weight regardless if they are moving or not will ruin a tire. I have had good luck with Maxxis trailer tires. Best out there IMO. Stay away from good year marathons (they blew off the rim on me)

A few years ago, I also had a Titan blow. Maybe a lot of bad tires.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did the math and it was closer to 12-15K on those tires. I spent the day calling around about tires, and I was asking for everyone's opinions and Good Year Marathon's were at the top of everyone's list, one place didn't even carry them(too small of a shop) and that was what he recommend. Do they sell the Maxxis tires at a Dealer? I might be going with the Marathons because that trailer needs to be heading north on friday afternoon.

Marathons used to be the tire to put on. Then, Marathons started being made in China, and they were trash. Then, some of them were made here, some there??? To tell the truth, I got lost in the dance as to which ones were good.

Titans have received many bad reviews.

Maxxis are not used that much, but I've seen some good revues on them.

Myself, I'll do some research, and put on Marathons. The ones I've got not have treated me well. Either 2013 or 2014 will be my tire replacement year. Probably 2013.

I had good luck with Hercules on my previous rig.

I now have goodyear marathons and they are working good so far.

I just bought Road Rider St tires, never had a blowout with the marathons i had for 7yrs on the boat, tires were still good shape but after reading all the threads about blowouts i bought all new tires, i hope these road riders are no problems for me, time will tell.

Thanks for all the replies guys. The dealer just dropped it off at my house with the new marathons on it. I live in a relatively small town and feel lucky to have such a great dealer close by. I called him yesterday afternoon and he said that he had the marathons and could do it today if i wanted to bring it up. I live in a small town, but drive 50 miles to downtown mpls every day for work so there was no way I could make it before closing. He offered to pick it up last night and then brought it home today with the new tires and even through in a spare tire mount and put the spare on it.
