is this big enough?

Eric,
I picked up a tool bag from Home depot that works very well for all of my electronics. I always store the electronics with each cover in place. All of the electronics are packed tightly to one another so that they can not bounce around. I really see no reason for padding - since there is no way that the electronics can move about. After taking the bag of electronics out of the boat, they are either stored in the trunk, or storage area of the truck that is padded, so I don't need any more padding in the bag itself.

Take measurements on your electronics and take a look at some of these bags:

My electronics hardly ever come out. Unless the boat is in a bad place overnight (very rare). I even leave everything in the boat at the dock at the cabin.

Electronics stay in and cover is put at at the landing every time.

I'm with Wade on this one. Of course, during my last trip a couple of weeks ago, there was a 621 tied-up on the other side of my dock. Heck, they ain't even gonna look at my boat,,,,,,,

Default Rarely

I rarely take out my electronics. Same as Wade and HRG, if I'm at a sketchy place overnight, which is very rare, I'll pull the HDS's and lock em up. I always put everything back in the compartments at the end of the day so there's nothing loose in the boat and again if I'm in a sketchy place I'll lock the compartments, but usually leave everything in the boat. I'm not a morning person, so if I can get an extra 30 minutes of sleep rather than having to re-install and load everything back into my boat, I'll take it!!

good point. I to always put everything away and prep the boat that evening for the next trip (usually at the landing). That way the boat is always ready to go on a moments notice. It drives me nuts to see guys leaving gear all unorganized. I don't know how they can possibly be ready for the next trip.

Default Electronics

WE always take out the electronics at a resort. I found a insulatedd soft sided lunchbox that it fits in perfectly withthe antenna in the front pouch. They are readily avalilable in the fall for back to school. Works perfect, perfect fit.

One of the main reasons that I always remove everything from the boat when tied up at the dock is because of the danger of the boat sinking at the dock.

I have been part of a boat sinking at the dock a couple of times. In neither case was it my boat, but for any thing that had been left in the boat when it happened, the results were not pretty.

It seldom happens, but if it does, not a good result for anything left in the boat.

I remove electronics and fishing tackle + rods when I arrive home. I cover my boat in the driveway so my approach is based on best security practices and to avoid heat damage to electronics, lures, fishing line. I must admit that the Humminbird 788CI quick disconnect is not perfect and required replacement parts after 1.5 seasons, but consider removing to be mandatory after each trip to lake ot stop at a hotel. Would you throw a tarp over your car with open windows and hope nobody takes your $600 stereo....

I take out all my fishing gear, all electronics and leave my wife in the boat.
