Default duo snaps

Hey guys after reading about how a guy should be using some type of snap on cranks I bought some of the small duo snaps and for the life of me them things seem to be a pain hooking to the ring on the bill. Is there a good way to remove the split rings from the cranks also?

Thanks guys JB

The way your describing the challenge, I anticipate you have something like this:

The folded over portion of this snap makes it challenging to fit into the eye/split ring of a crankbait. If you go smaller to solve fitting it through the eye, it gets hard to lock and unlock it with "fat" fingers. The folded over ends are typically referred to as "Cross Lock" snaps.

There are models that don't have a folded over end, they have single strand wire to push through the split ring/eye of a crank. This style is typically described as Duo Lock, and the easiest to use:

I use something called a speed clip. It takes some practice on how to use them, but once mastered, I feel the speed clip is the fastest to use. The key is, you don't squeeze them, you use pressure to hook them up, or unhook them. When there is a split ring involved, the split ring has to be held firmly to use the speed clip.

Sounds like maybe you are using a cross-lock type snap? Those are a real PITA to get on and off. A true duolock bait snap like the second one Burr listed is the way to go, they are quick, easy, and secure. I use red ones made by Eagle Claw.

I use various sizes matched to the size of the crank I'm running. Do yourself a favor and get a split ring pliers if you plan to remove a bunch of them.
