I do the same on my slip bobber rigs, I use 10 lb fireline to a small barrel swivel then about a 18" 8 lb floro leader, I also put on the split shot sinkers above the swivel so they can't slide down the line.

I have found that braid in the same lb test as flouro, the flouro will always break first. a small barrel swivel is the best way to add to the braid. The braids tend to break at twice there rateing. the flouro breaks about 20 % above its rateing. All my reels are suffix 832 10 lbs test, I have caught pike as big as 43" and #25 lbs on this line.without failure of the line. the flouro I add if it is very clear water or very lite bite
