I am looking at buying a 1999 620 hull, before i make a 10k$ mistake i am wondering if someone can assist me on what or where i should look for known problems. I have ran a canvas over the internet and i can't seem to find any problems with this hull.
Also do you know how many rods the center rod storage can handle on this model? and size? |

As I recall, they were a bit tricky to prop...because as they used up fuel, they got a lot faster ,,,and gained quite a few rpms. I don't recall any problem areas to watch out for. Last edited by T Mac; 06-15-2012 at 08:34 PM. |

I have the same boat. While I don't have a ton of other Ranger models to give you feed back on, I've been more than happy with it. Some might say that they ride a little lower in the bow due to the fuel tank further forward, but most of that can be changed with the driver (throttle and or trim). I've had it out in the middle of Winnebago with the 4 year old in 20-25 mile winds and while I wasn't pushing it, it handled 30 mph just fine and was a dry ride. Only time I get a little spray is slow no wake or idle with waves over 2 feet amid ship. If you can find it for $10k JUMP on it. Won't regret it.

The other answer to your question, sorry, is buy rod slicks, Fleet Farm sells 'em. I have 6 telescopic Cabelas 8'6" trolling rods and either 6 or 8 spinning rods---I'm one of those guys who has a rod for every application. I have no problem being able to get the rod in and out of the locker without tangling and could fit one or two more rods on top of what I already have and it's due to the rod slicks. Those that have the tubes to help sort 'em out waste too much room. I thought about putting tubes in but glad I didn't. I've got a 7 foot rod in the middle of the locker and it would be able to handle a 8', maybe two or three wide, after that, they'll need to be shorter as both sides of center are a little more restricted. Hope this helps. You got any other questions, feel free to message me.

99 620 center rod locker has tubes for 14 rods...8 on the bottom row, 6 on the top row.

Thanks for the info.
with the goofy size transom is it better to get a 20 inch or a 25 inch engine? |

I might suggest that you have an inspection down on the hull and also have an evaluation done on the value of the hull.
In particular check the transom as well as all of the floors for issues. This is a 13 year old hull. Don't spend too much money for it. REW |

http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1999.../Special-Notes
Notice that the Nada value includes the price of an outboard motor. You use the word hull, so I assume that you are talking about buying a boat without a trailer or a motor. A typical 150hp Merc, is worth 3K, so that should be subtracted from the 10K figure to bring you to 7k. http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1999...utboard-Motors The trailer is worth $500, so that brings the value of the hull to $6500. http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1999.../Boat-Trailers Good luck in any decision you might make. Rew, you first off are listing the wrong model,
But you are also oblivious to the price range 620's sell at. If you can get a 620 of any year, loaded with out the main engine. In good condition, for 10,000$ you are in good shape. I frequently see 99's 620's with 99' opti(MELTS) go for 18,000-20,000 If you can get a good condition boat, minus the engine and spend 5-7k on a 04-08 opti or etec that boat will instnatly beworht 20,000-22,000, Sounds like poster is getting a good deal, that is if its loaded. |
