The Keep Kool from Hagen is the best thing going, picture in a previous post. I freeze water overnight, wash bedding off crawlers, put some water in middle of container and put the crawlers in the water. They are clean and plump out of the water and you put them back in the bedding overnight. Been doing this for years and no problem with losing crawlers when put back in bedding. If you do business with a vet clinic ask them for some ice packs they get when vaccine is shipped to them, wrap newspaper around the ice packs and refreeze overnight. Get enough to cover crawler container and that many extra so you always have somme in the freezer for reuse. Works great.

I throw a bunch in a ziplock bag for the day and throw them in the cooler. Then I keep a styrofoam cup and lid for each person. Throw a dozen in there and keep them shaded and you should be fine. When I have half worms I just set them under the lid on the floor and set the cup on top, and no escapees.

I use a hard lunchbox with a flip open top and freeze an empty pop bottle . I put the bottle on the bottom. Does get some moisture but is easy to carry and stays shut in rough water!

To keep crawlers alive put em in seperate styro containers (the square kind with styro lids) and keep them in the cooler. Use frozen bottles of water, tea or Gatorade for ice. That way when they melt the liquid dosen't collect in the bottom and you have cold drinks. Plan for how many crawlers you are likely to need for the day and throw in an extra two dozen just in case.
Good Luck. |
