Only put in for preference points for my Elk tags in the black Hills of SD. Population is really down. Think the only tag I'll get here this year is my Archery tag.

Headed to Scotland in late Sept though to hunt Roe Deer, Red Deer, and possibly Fallow.

My friends and I are going to Colorado in early December drop camp for cow elk hunt; try for bull guided hunt another year. More about being in a new place with friends than horns to me at this point. I am hungry for some tasty elk on the grill however....

I also go every year to SD to pheasant hunt opening weekend, and if you have never experienced it, it is unbelievable. We hunt public lands and walk ditches and almost always limit out daily (11 hunters). Again, a quality time with good friends makes this a supper hunt. Taking my son this year.....

We buy landowner vouchers from a rancher every year. It guarantees us a tag without using preference points in a draw only unit. We buy all the vouchers for the season we want to hunt (Colorado 2nd season) so we are the only hunters on the ranch. This year we got 2 buck only deer vouchers and 2 Elk vouchers. No one in our group wants the deer vouchers. Deer are like rabbits where we live and I haven't seen a deer on the ranch in the past 8 yrs. I'm not going to take a chance of ruining my Elk hunt shooting at a deer. Some years we get 4 bull tags, another year 4 cow tags. This year 2 cows and 2 deer. We have to take what's offered if we want to go. The ranch is a dream come true Elk spot, surrounded by wilderness area, never come home empty handed. It's addictive.
