Chippewa Flowage

I am an avid musky fisherman but live in Michigan. I will be doing a family vacation on the Chip in July - I know, not the best time - but just wanted some input on the status of the fishery and how the fishing has been recently for musky. Any input would be appreciated. Thankyou!

I haved fished the Chip mostly in Sept and it's a tough lake to fish if it's your first time. We mostly fish the west side of CC and stay at Tiger Musky resort (nice place and good people!). I don't consider it a numbers lake for Musky but the big girls are in their. We did very good the last couple years for smallies.

now, i have been going to the big chip for 34 years always at the end of july beginning of august. As you know the weather will help or hurt you. The chip has some nice big fish but it's so big they are hard to find. But it is one of the most beautiful places in the midwest and it's certainly awesome to fish. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you have a map or GPS. you can get lost quite easily especially at night.. All the islands look the same after a while. Try Pete's bar, and do a search for weeds around the islands. That has been my game for a while and i have found some nice fish.

Weather has a lot to do with musky catches on the flowage, make sure you are out there during barometer changes, and evening and night fishing is also better than daytime fishing.

the scenerey alone is so worth it.. its beautiful.. Many people will tell you to fish Little or big pete's bar, but what i have found is look for drop offs and structure.. they can be anywhere. Weeds start shallow and move off to the depths.. that is where i find some success. Its a large body of water with many islands so make sure you know where you are going.. easy to get lost and the depths are different everywhere.

Just got back from two weeks on the Chip. Best Musky was a 46 inch fish that came out of Moore's bay on the west side. First time there and agree with others it is a beautiful lake. Have pictures of a bear swimming from one island to another. Went there for walleye and was somewhat disappointed with the size of the fish but there were lots of small fish so good things should be coming in the future .

There are lots of people in the area disappointed in the Walleye. Most locals believe it is due to a Large Mouth Bass issue...

our group went to the chip 2 years ago and again this year but we go the first week of june. walleye are hard to find crappie mainly this time of year northern ok never fish for musky great lake beautiful scenery after a couple of trips and a good gps not hard to cover the whole lake talk to the locals watch for other boats and have fun. We have stayed at RR bayview and Johnsons both are great places.
