Default Quantum Accurist AC500 Needs Repair

Well I've been using this reel for about five years and now the handle turns, the level wind goes back and forth, but the spool doesn't move. Does this sound like an easy fix or should I send it in for repair and if so, does anyone know of a good reel repair shop in SW Michigan or NE Indiana. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure on how hard the fix is.
If you decide to send in give these guys a call, they have been highly recommended to me. located in Ludington, but can mail into them. They often get real busy so check if they can fit yours in.

I had an abu garcia baitcast reel that did the same thing. By the time i pay to ship it and get it fixed it wasnt worth it. Just make sure its worth it to send it out for repair, your prolly gonna have to pay shipping both ways and for the actual repair.

I'm guessing you've tried it but would hate for you to spend $ on a "brain fart"....did the drag accidently get backed way off??? Don't ask me how I know to check this........

I checked out both of the above suggestions and those were not the problem. I can get it to wind if I push hard on the reel handle so something is not allowing the retrieve gearing to engage. I'm on a fishing trip now so when I get home I think that I'll tear it apart and if I fail a new reel is in order.

Also, when taking apart a bait casting reel, your digital camera is your best friend.
Take numerous pictures as you disassemble the reel, so you will have maximum information to reassemble the reel.

I had a AC300 I took apart to oil and grease, I never could get it back together correctly. I had to send it in. St Croix rods in Parkfalls, WI works on them.

I always found that if you can, send them back to the factory. They will charge you for parts however there is the satisfied customer aspect that skews the labor. I sent my Shimano Chronarch that sat on the bottom of the Mississippi River for a week back to the factory and for $35 they cleaned out all the sand, replaced 2 bearings, reoiled, works like new. I thought that was a pretty good deal. Here is the Quantum page for repairs: http://www.quantumfishing.com/custom...mentparts.aspx
