Default "Erie Outfitters" LEWT Huron Champ. review

Solomey’s Win “Erie Outfitters” LEWT Huron Championship

The Crown Battery, Sharpnack Chevrolet, Buick and Pontiac Lake Erie Walleye Trail (LEWT) held their championship for 2012 on Saturday June23rd and 24th at Huron. Most teams found fish but finding the right ones was the tough part.

Mike and Shane Solomey had two consistent days and pulled out a win with 73.99 lbs. Second went to familiar faces Jay Gullet and Scott Gietgey with the weight of 72.60 lbs. With a big day on day 2, Mike Robertson and Mike Tobias ended up moving up thirteen spots to third with 69.82 lbs. Rounding out the top 5, Joe Whitten and Ron Rhoads were in fourth with 66.14 lbs, In fifth was Gary and Nicholas Zart with 64.84 lbs.

The Solomey brothers took the Medina Plating Early Bird award as the top finishing team that signed up to fish all 4 LEWT events during the Early Bird sign up period. Scott Bogen won the Sharpnack Chevrolet- Buick owner’s group contingency award. All anglers that have purchased a vehicle from Sharpnack in Willard are eligible for this contingency award at every event the WBSA is holding in 2012.

The Team of the Year award was also given out on Day 2 of the Tournament. The Father and Son team of Gary and Nicholas Zart took top honors after a fantastic year. Jay Gullet and Scott Gietgey took second with another great year. Joe Whitten and Ron Rhoads rounded out the top three. Craig at Erie Outfitters once again put together a great array of crankbaits and also will be supplying the winning team with embroidered jackets.

The teams brought a total of 388 fish to the scales that averaged 5.63 lbs. Most of the top teams fished the Lorain area out to the weather buoy. Fish were caught on Reef Runners and worm harnesses.
