your out the case regardless; so at this point i'd be all about the jb weld patch; that will likely hold for awhile but its temporary

if the case is out of oil and you drive it in 2 wheel you'll still destroy the bearings (as they will be spinning)

clean it up and jb weld would be my approach

Is the case thick enough to drill and tap a bolt or pipe plug into the hole ? Seems like this would be a longer lasting fix.

The case is being worn through from a spinning metal clip. It is self destructing from the inside out. A patch will get you to the shop.
