My drive in not level to my garage either. I put a 2X10 under the truck tires and it has solved the same problem you are describing on my Ranger trailer.

Greased the ball and bungee strapped a screw in the slot so the hitch won't slide back (brake acuator) and it popped right off.

I use WD40 on the ball and trailer before attaching seems to help. Grease works too, hoever if you go on gravel roads it makes a dirty mess
|

If there is still forward or aft force applied on the ball the trailer will not release easily. Truckers load their 5th wheel when leaving their unit unattended to prevent azzhats from pulling the release.

After backing to where you want to be, put it in D and pull forward an inch or two.
