I usually go 50' behind the weight with a stick bait, less if using a diving lure like a shad rap.

If using lead core, I have a 30 to 50' flouro leader.

You could also try tail dancers/wally divers and some of the other deep divers, they get pretty close to that depth.

Snap weights might be the easiest also.

Had a friend that back in the 80's trolled for Musky's with downriggers, wasn't a lot of deeper diver large baits around so he'd hook a Suick, ReefHawg or whatever up to a rigger, run the ball at different depths to put the bait where he wanted it.

Did pretty well that way and he'd hit a walleye every now and then, nice thing was the walleyes were usually 5-6 pounds or bigger, big bait, big fish I guess.

Al

I actually meant long lining these baits you could not get them that deep.

With snap weights its a breeze.

I go 20' behind then the snap weight. This way i can use the dive curves for snap weights from the trollers bible.

Remember the old "Red Fin" minnow baits? I think they are still on the market. Years ago I had great luck pulling them behind cannon balls. The ones I am thinking about would only dive 5 feet or so, so I put them 100 feet behind the ball and went fishing. Caught some very nice walleyes on them. No reason they wouldn't work the same way today.

The dipsy divers are good for this. I use 20# power pro to connect to rod and 10 or 8# flourescent to connect to dipsy.

I've used snap weights for years and caught plenty of fish on them. A lot of guys are going to the Torpedo Divers in the Great Lakes. They're more hydrodynamic, can be directional so you get a better spread, can run long leads with them, 2 to12 oz sizes. I like to use them instead of deep (inside) dipseys right alongside my downriggers, but can be a good rigger substitute.
