This all started with a hard start - rough idle condition. I seemed to have found that issue and replaced all of the low pressure fuel pumps. Now, it will not hold a prime in the bulb. I have tried three total bulbs, one new with the old fuel line, and one whole new assembly trying to rule out the old fuel line. Same result, it will pump up but will not hold. it started when we were fishing a tournament two weeks ago. It runs awesome when pumped up and I can get it going. We had several 30 to 45 minutes high speed runs and it did fine. When we stopped for anywhere from 5 minutes or up, we had to pump the bulb. Like everyone else, we have fishing trips planned so this is a bit of an emergency
Any help is appreciated. Steve |

I would first take the motor cowling off and pump the bulb hard and look for leaks. If there are no leaks you may have a bad anti syphon valve in the tank pickup. If you have a remote outboard tank hook that up and see if you retain prime

Thanks for the thoughts. I have tried seeing a leak under the cowl but there is none that I can see. This is on a Skeeter ZX2050. It has two 30 gallon gas tanks in the floor. I have looked at them and don't see a problem. I changed the fuel/water seperating filter as well this weekend and that didn't help. I have an appointment to take it in on Wednesday this week and have the pressure/vacuum test done. I am really drawing a blank one this one unless the main fuel pump is bad.
Still looking for options and opinions. Thanks again Steve |

getting the run around from the service shop GGGGGRRRRRRRR that makes me really angry. They promise it will be the first boat in line the next morning and when I call, they haven't even looked at it
Still willing to try this repair myself if someone has been through this trouble shooting issue before. I just don't know what to try next. |

Possible fuel pump/s?
http://www.bbcboards.net/yamaha-moto...-225-ox66.html ================ 08-31-2008, 05:02 AM Re: Yamaha 225 VMAX ox66 shutting off while on plane (MeanGreenPathfinder22v) Just my 2 cents worth but I would replace all the fuel filters and the pumps that way you know whats done, sounds like unc didn't do to much unless it had to be done and then it was not done right anyways http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif you may have to drop a few hundred but in the long run it will save you time and money http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/stirthepot.gif Last edited by REW; 06-30-2012 at 08:06 AM. |

Summary,
So, from the other boards, it looks like potential problem areas are: 1. Fuel pumps - 3. 2. O2 sensor - clean and or replace. 3. VST filter - clean and or replace. Good luck and may your engine be quickly repaired |

Thanks REW.
I did replace all of the low pressure fuel pumps already. Thats when it started to lose the prime. I just got back from a long weekend camping (without the boat) I will call the shop I took it to and see what they have done. If nothing, I will bring it home and see what else I can do. O2 sensor and VST Just wondering though - Would the O2 sensor or VST cause it to not prime or lose prime? The Crusher |

You know the old story about the easiest solution is the last thing you think of? This is almost like that.
It turns out that all three of the brand new low pressure fuel pumps I just installed have holes in the diaphragm. I don't know if I'm happy it was something simple or really pi$$ed off that I ruled them out as the problem since I had just changed them. I will try to return them but that will more than likely end in me getting mad and the shop saying "We don't accept returns on those items" Hopefully this ends the saga Thanks for letting me vent Steve |
