For me, plastics are go to when fishing in current or dark stained water. Love using munchies but they dont make them any more.

Default Powerbait?

I don't see a lot of discussion on this board about Berkley Powerbait. While I don't often specifically fish them for walleye, 3" Powerbait grubs w/twister tails have produced quite a few walleye for me while fishing for smallmouth & crappie.

Actually, I've had much better success with Powerbait (occasional) than with Gulp (none). . .

Thumbs up live bait

Nothing beats live bait, this is a natural food for walleye, I fish lakes in northern Quebec were live mnnows are not aloud, salted minnows and worms work great. gulp alive is a go to bait up there we fish it with a worm together. I have found that trigger X works better than Gulp. I bring them all you never know what they are going to hit next.

The best bait by far for walleyes is a live minnow. Next best is pretty well a draw between frozen minnows and live nightcrawlers. i've tried all sorts of plastics and have never had much luck with them. I guess I fish too slow. I catch more walleyes using minnow baits than with plastics.

A live minnow outfishes dead minnows even though the minnow died 30 seconds earlier. A walleye can sense if the minnow is dead or alive even though it's hooked behind a 1/2 ounce jig with trailer hook in fast water.

Better for catching or not I can't say but Gulp worms do last longer on spinner rigs than night crawlers. My last trip out it seemed to help having plastic on, the bite was active enough that the plastic kept them chewing long enough to get the hook in their mouth and at the same time one bump on the live crawlers and my bait was gone. So in that situation the plastic was definitely better. I am sure there specific times to use each type and it's always best to figure out which it is.
