reef runner makes a tool specifically for tuning. i think its like $5. i have one and like it, i can finer adjustments then i could with a pliers.

I run 800 series reef runners and the cabela's version and have had more out of box problems with the cabela's version for some reason. I tune with my needle nose pliers. Best colors for me have been pink lemonade, black light perch, thread fin shad, plum shad and bare naked.

All the time make sure you check after you land fish on one. They do catch fish, that is why we have boxes of them.
