Thermacell is also scent free. I use it bow hunting and duck hunting also. Cost me $20 or less at walmart 2 years ago. Have had deer within 10 feet and no idea I was there. Works great on the black flies.

my buddy calls them "turrets" flys. with all the cursing going on it looks like we have turrets syndrome.
i purchased a thermacell this year. idid some experiments with it "myth busters" style.
my conclusion is with the thermacell on, not one bite. the flys lurk around but do not come in the boat. with it off we got mauled. its the best 20 bucks i ever spent. i will never go on the water without one again.

There is a "Where to buy" button...put your zip code in and it will tell you the closest place to you.

Looks like Walmart carries them. The item description doesn't say how long it lasts though. The refills are anywhere from 6.00-20.00 each.

I found something that worked in the boat. I went to Tractor Supply to pick up a bottle of the "Bronco", but couldn't pronounce most of the words in the ingredients, so I opted for a more expensive all natural spray that guaranteed it would work or my money back. (That sounded good to me..can't go wrong, right?)

The "Bronco" was 6.88 and the "Ultra Shield" was 19.99.

I tried the "Ultra Shield" this past Tuesday when I went Perchin and it definitely worked. Smells good too. I sprayed it on the floor, where it curves up the storage compartments, and it kept the flies out of the boat, and off my ankles.

I accidentally sprayed some on one of my feet too, and it didn't have any kind of adverse reaction to the ingredients. The other stuff says to wash off right away if it comes in contact with your skin. lol

I have my dog on the boat a lot and I didn't want her to get sick from the "Bronco" chemicals. "Ultra Shield" won't make her sick, and that's just one less thing to worry about.

A buddy of mine used Bronco last year on his boat and it worked well. I was more sold on the Ultra Shield even though it cost more for the reasons Juls pointed out.

I haven't tried a Thermacell, but with the good reviews here, I'll be getting one to try out.

Curious if the previously mentioned insect repelant ideas work for the little small flea like bugs that hatched and covered my body by the hundreds last Friday while fishing on Lake Erie as a Co-Angler in the AIM Tournament out of Lorain, OH. There was no wind and the little buggers were on every square inch of your body. They were not the bitting black flies and did not bite but you could not keep them off of you for two seconds. Our only relief after 3 hours of this was when the wind got up to 5 mph and the little buggers disappeared. I am not exagerating when I say they covered your body by the hundreds.

Not sure if the Ultra Shield works on the gnats yet or not. I haven't been annoyed by any yet since I have bought the US.

I'll post when I know for sure.

Default Thermocells

Thermocell works on all almost everything...thats why our armed forces are useing them..you'll need more pads and fuel...i think they burn for 4hours then you have to change pads...walmart ussally has a deal on them...Uglystik52
