Default western MN fishing report

The week of the fourth of July offered some excellent fishing action. The morning of the holiday, a couple partners and I fished a small lake in the Fergus Falls area and experienced the best bass bite I have been in on so far this year. We caught 56 fish in just under 3 hours, most on Impulse Dip-Stick Worms fished on Jungle Jig-Locs pitched to heavy weeds in water depths from 7-15 feet. That evening a couple partners and I fished walleyes on another small lake and had a very good bite there as well. These fish were located on the edge of a shallow flat in 6- to 8-feet of water and were susceptible to Baitfish Spinners tipped with night crawlers and pulled behind Slick-Stick bottom bouncers. The weekend brought a bit slower bite as a major cold front hit the area Friday and seemed to slow both the bass and walleyes up a bit, though we still caught good numbers of fish. Water temperatures are now peaking the mid-80 degree range on many lakes. This is an awesome time to be on the water as lots of species are on the bite and various patterns can be used to catch them!

Thanks for the report Mike!

Can you elaborate on the "bait fish spinner" you were using for the eyes?

I have no idea what that would be.

Thanks!

Baitfish Spinners come in a variety of configurations. They're a Northland product and can be seen at the Northland website,,,northlandtackle.com Click on "Products",,they're under the Live Bait category.

They're a spinner rig, great walleye presentation.

Thanks for your interest,,,also thanks to Mike for his reports. I spoke with Mike recently, he said his guide trips have been doing very well on walleyes and largemouth bass.

Best Fishes,

Bob Jensen

Thanks Bob!

After reading Mikes report I googled "Bait Fish Spinners" and found them with Norhland Tackle. I was expecting a spinner bait type, like you would use for bass. I will look at our local bait shops for the "Bait Fish Spinners"

Thanks again!
