Default Liqua Lube Hubs

About 4 years ago I had LL hubs installed on my shorelander trailer and have had nothing but problems every year. I am contemplating converting them back to bearing buddies. Just wondering if others are having the same problems as I do.

My trailer has a heavy 3700 pound axle with 15" tires and 6 lug wheels. LL did not have a speedy sleeve that fit this axle so the first go around the trailer shop I had them installed at suggested we take the spring out of the inner seal and cut about 5 turns out of it and install it that way. That worked for a while, would have to replace the seal about 1 a year. Two years ago I took my trailer to a machine shop and had them make me a couple of speedy sleeves for the inner seal surface. We made the sleeves about the same thickness as sleeves for other off the shelf sleeves. Last year had no problem with the inner seal leaking and have made a couple of 200 mile one way trips this season and last week one seal was leaking. Replaced the inner seal and headed out to Pierre for a short week, no problem on the way out but on the way back the trailer set at a hotel for 2 days while visiting friends and both seals were leaking while setting in the hot sun (95 degrees) that weekend. I filled the hubs up with lubricant and made the 200 mile trip with out incident. I have tried inner seals from NAPA, Tempco and some others.

I really don't want to convert back to grease as the hubs run so much cooler with LL.

Anyone have some suggests before I call LL for more o-rings and lube or convert back to grease.

David.

A couple things to consider. 1) Did you put sealer on the spindle before installing the sleeves? Believe it or not, lube can leak out in this area. 2) Make sure you don't have excessive play in your hub. Try for zero side movement in the hub when tightening the bearings. 3) Places like Eastern Marine, E Trailer and Champion Trailer all sell seals designed with double and triple lips for oil filled hubs. Hope this helps.

I did put lock tite on the spindles before installing the sleeves. I will try to find some seals with double or triple lips.

Thanks for the response.

Default Liqua Lubes

Had the same experience with my 1725 Pro Guide and Shorelander trailer. They were even authorized installer put on. Tried 3 times and raised the white flag. Went back to grease.
