The lake has alot of algea on it and it was hard to find places where it was was not getting tangled up and messing with things. Not many keepers, I will not be going back until the lake rolls over.

I have had excellent luck on that lake... its basically a big bowl but there are alot of nice walleye to be had... just troll the basin or work the edge of the weeds... there is structure to be found but its subtle changes.. besides walleye there you get bonus jumbo perch too

I forgot to add that we saw about 12 to 15 dead walleye foating around, that would go along with the article I read in the Ol' Argus leader that there was a fish killl going on in parts of ND and SD, and the only conclusion was the heat. ?

Said to see it

Not sure that makes a lot of sense on Poinsett or any of the lakes right now unless they are a shallow slough. If you dive in the lakes are actually fairly cool as you get 3-4 feet in the water. Water temps I have been seeing range from as high as 88 degrees on the surface lakes to 72 on the river channels. More likely you are seeing fisherman pulling hooks and tossing them back below the slot. Poinsett has a lot of fish just below the slot. Seems to be that way every year. Find a defined weed line on the lake and you will pull some fish from it. Granted they may be a little more toothy than you were looking for but they are there. This lake seems to really follow a size classification for schooling. If you find the bigger fish you need to stay put. One of the best perch lakes around in the fall.
