Default too much static

Replaced my old x-65 lowrance with a 788ci and now my marine radio is all static (like the squelch is completely off). If I turn off the 788ci the static stops so I know that is the source. How can I fix this?

I have the 788ci also and when i installed my marine radio I had static when the graph was on to, what resolved mine was to solder the antenna wire into the plug end instead of crimping.

Default update

Did a little more trouble shooting and discovered that the staic goes away if radio antenna is removed but if center pin is touched to center hole on antenna lug the static comes right back. re ran all wires and even coiled things up and ran radio power to different battereies. Called uniden and they suggested that the radio is just old and needs reciever "tuned". this would cost $60.00 plus shipping...or about the cost of a new radio!
