you can tell by looking at the plugs if something is running rich or lean, right? i've always thought that plugs typically should be a caramel like color instead of gray/white or black.

your mixture screw is for idle mixture if the float is sticking for example, the plugs would look black all I am saying is you really cant tell if the idle mixture is lean or rich from looking at the plugs. unless the motor only runs at idle I would let it warm up and while idling under load, back off the mixture screw a little and see if it helps.

Here's the link to a youtube video on cleaning the carb. Yours may be slightly different, but you get the general idea.

On the topic of pro-kickers stahling....I have a similar question....
I have the new TM on my '08 motor that all works fine. Yes it is a cold starting SOB but runs fine....until I backtroll into a chop. I can backtroll for a while without problems but at times the motor starts to stall out and want to die. If I back the throttle off before it dies it runs fine again until I give it more throttle. If I let it die it fires right back up and idles no problem. This only occurs while backtrolling and no problem going forward. Someone gave me the theory that the back pressure on the exhaust while going backwards might cause it to sputter out??? Not sure but I don't have any better ideas. There is a lot of water splashing up on the motor while backtrolling but everything seems to be sealed well and the symptoms are not like water is getting anywhere it shouldnt be...... Any ideas?? |
