Default Puppy's first boat trip

We took our 4 month old German Shepard "Boo" for his first boat trip-and he loved it! He didn't jump overboard-didn't cry-and at the end of the day -found out that swimming was FUN!
Next step is the 4-6 footers on Erie!!

Isnt that a relief? I just got my pup past water intro and she loves it. Not at first though. I was worried.

Sounds like you have a boat dog. Just a note about pups and boats. if you want to make sure your pup doesn't develop the annoying habit of jumping off the boat without being released, do not let her jump freely off the docks. That pup doesn't know the difference between the dock and a boat. I learned all this the hard way. Tough to break.

Used to take our first Springer fishing, dam dog kept retrieving the marker buoys we threw out, one of us had to hang on to the dog while the other threw the marker..

Be careful, don't assume your dog can swim in 4 foot waves.

Used to sit on the bow platform and cast for whatever fish I was after, she'd sit under the chair and we'd share licorice bits together....miss that darn dog..

Doubleheader-
I didn't let Boo jump out of the boat-I had lifted him out. You are very correct-they won't know the difference. My last German Shepherd Shadow was pretty good in the boat (except for barking at the planer boards)-but hated the main engine (he would jam himself as far as he could under the console). The reservoir I was on is a 10 hp max-so I only started the main and ran it up in neutral-Boo was not fazed by it. Shadow probably spent almost as many hours in the boat as I did-when he saw it come out of the garage he couldn't wait. I am hoping for the same thing with Boo. Shadow also never had an accident in the boat-we could be out on Erie for 8 hours without a problem.
BTW-Boo is going on 50# already at 4 months and 1 week!

Walteye, great looking pup. Should have called him Casper . Good luck with him. My lab Cooper is going to be 4 this year already. He loves the boat but isn't fond of running down the lake with waves pounding the hull. He cowers under my seat, which is fine by me.

Our Llewellin Setter, Abby was so wild in the boat the first couple of years we had to pick the fishing situtations when to have her in the boat. Now that she is an older dog she is a real joy to have along.
